Presentation: Click with Your
Cavalier!!!
The BACKCSC will
hold its next general meeting on Saturday, March 31, at The Olander Company, 144
Commercial Street, Sunnyvale, at 1:00 pm. Our presentation will follow the
meeting and begin at 2:00 pm.
Most Cavalier
owners enjoy special relationships with their dogs. However, as Kay Laurence
says in her book, Clicker Foundation
Training: “Once you begin to
acquire the skills of the clicker trainer you can start a whole new
understanding with your dog…Dogs love clicker training. It gives them an
opportunity to show us what fantastic learners they are and it is a wonderful
window into their personalities, sense of humour and exceptional skills…” This
new way of communicating has endless wonderful and practical applications. You
and your dog can learn new behavior for the show ring, obedience ring, or
agility; you can fine tune tricks and skills for your therapy dog; you can make
grooming and vet visits less stressful; you can communicate quickly with a
rescue dog.
During Click with
Your Cavalier, club member, Molly Hughes, will briefly talk about clicker principles
and the training process. Then, the clicking will begin! We’ll start with a few
exercises to build up your skills. Cavaliers
are welcome at this meeting and encouraged to attend. However, you will be able
to participate and practice even if you can’t bring your dog. Your Cavalier
will leave with at least one new (learned!!!) behavior—and each human attendee
will leave with a free I-Click clicker! So, come and click with your
Cavalier!!!
